Garden of the Year 2009 – Award of Special Merit

(Summary)

The garden in this project was a small, empty place; a blank canvas awaiting the owners’ ideas and the designer’s creativity. In this space my clients wanted to create a multifunctional garden with many different forms, shapes and functional elements. Therefore the following elements were designed and built: swimming pool, terrace with seating area and the adjoining herb garden, kitchen garden, central lawn area and heavily planted flowerbeds in organic shapes. The garden is also a bird sanctuary with bird feeders and birdbaths. We took extra care in choosing the planting material and combined flowering shrubs with evergreens and herbaceous perennials to give a colourful display and an all year around interest.
