BALOGHNÉ KAISER Dóra Garden dominated by yellow, orange, red and burgundy colours Garden of the Year 2008 – Certificate of Special Merit(Summary)
My clients, a sympathetic young
couple, asked me to design their
town garden that is situated in a
newly built housing estate. They
wanted me to find place for a garden
grill, a Jacuzzi, a rockery and
a solitary cedar tree in the garden.
In addition to these design aims
they required the enlargement of
the existing patio, screening from
the next door neighbour and the
creation of a garden which harmonises
with the very characteristic
colours of the new house.
Like many other young couples
they are planning to start a family
in the near future, so the accommodation
of a large sandpit and
exclusion of potentially harmful
and poisonous planting material
was also important. As a starting
point the position of the patio, the
shapes, materials and colours of
the hard surfaces and the dog
kernel at the back were given.
As a result of a well thought out
design the garden was planted
up with a nice mixture of evergreen
and deciduous plants and
herbaceous perennials, carefully
selected in a way so the yellow,
orange, red and burgundy colours
should dominate the garden. The
night atmosphere is completed
with a series of garden lighting.
