Ágnes LIPCSEI Large garden with small details Garden of the Year 2008 – First Prise(Summary) There is an astonishing balance
between the built environment
and the surrounding vegetation
in this garden. This was very
strongly felt from the beginning
and during construction but
undoubtly this will become more
prominent as the garden ages.
The design of the representative
garden in front of the house is
the result of three very different
nevertheless strong ideas. (1.) The avenue of columnar
hornbeam trees alongside
the pedestrian path which is
edged by perpendicular lines of
Berberis hedges. (2.) The lines
of lime trees on both side of
the front garden and the under
planting of naturally well-shaped
shrubs. (3.) The extensive
lawn area, running in a northsouth
direction, is interrupted
by geometric, diagonal lines of
ground covering and herbaceous
species. The focal point of the
middle garden is a medium sized
maple tree, followed by a row of
standard European dwarf cherry
bushes. This line stretches as far
as the row of lime trees running
alongside the southern fence
and the southern-eastern corner
of the site. On the gravel bed in
front of the house there is a row
of pot plants with an herbaceous
bed occupying the corner and
running at the back touching the
gravel bed. Towards the back of
the garden the partition between
the 30 metre long kitchen garden
and the ornamental garden is
form by rows of lime trees. |
